With every marketing material a specific business creates, a lot of creativity and imagination is needed to allow the material to communicate for itself without any additional explanation. It has to convey a message to the customers, clients, and investors directly to the point, precise, and elaborate. This will ensure that any marketing material will be a potential for a business, partnership, or investment.
That being said, any marketing material creation process must be carefully thought of to meet the needs and specifications of the designer- what material it is to be printed on, what size it will be, and even how the text, infographics, and visuals will be combined to create a harmonious and complementary design. 1. Highlight what you’re selling
This might be a no-brainer, but lots of marketing ads somehow fail to take note of this vital principle. Most are fixated on other details such as the art and the visuals that they forget to center the spotlight on the product or service they’re trying to sell. Remember, the product or service is key, and all other elements simply support the main center stage, but still, most got it the other way around.
Make what is being endorsed as clear and as direct as possible. The customers or clients should know at one glance on the product or service your marketing ad is trying to sell or provide- don’t keep them in the dark or leave them guessing. For the average person, one will only look at the marketing ad for a few seconds before he or she decides it will be worth taking a shot at. It should grab their attention and cater to their interest and curiosity. This will draw the line between a successful endorsement, or a flopped one.
2. Remember to KISS
KISS initially stands for “keep it simple, stupid” but has now been changed to “keep it short and simple”, maybe to omit the offensive word. When creating a marketing ad, make sure that the layman person will still be able to comprehend and understand what you are talking about. As much as possible, avoid using technical language and jargons, use simple language that is easy to read and process. The layman will not waste his or her time trying to understand what you’re trying to say because it the language looks alien to them.
3. Include a variety of contacts
You should give your customer a leeway for contacting you if he or she finds interest in your ad. Have as many contact numbers as possible, include your business’s physical address, and place your email address and other forms of social networking such as Facebook, Viber, and WeChat.
4. Elements should look professional
Nothing looks uninviting more than an ad composed of poorly-placed and poorly-rendered elements. If you want your business to be taken seriously, show them that you are sincere and serious. Elements such as shapes, lines, and other designs should be of high quality, not pixelated or jagged. Photographs should be clear and not grainy or blurry. Text and fonts should be readable, with perfect complement with the background.
5. There is beauty in simplicity
Another thing to remember is not to overdo your design. Remove elements that shouldn’t be there and clear up the unnecessary graphics. The highlight is on the product, not on the design of the ad. It should not look messy and cluttered.
