A couple weeks ago, I developed a revised infographic, “Can I Use That Picture?,” flowchart that guides you through the process of using images legally and ethically.
Too often, I get questions that go something like this:
“Wait, I can’t use an image I found on Google for a PowerPoint presentation? Where am I supposed to get good images that I don’t have to pay for!?”
The answer to the first of those questions is, well, “No. You can’t use just any only old image for any purpose.” Fortunately, the answer to the second question comes with a variety of responses. There are dozens of really good websites out there now that have, literally, millions of good, quality photos that are in the public domain or are shared with creative commons licenses.
To help point you, your employees, and your students in the right direction, I created a handy little handout that includes the URLs to several stock, creative commons, and public domain websites:
