Four Ways Facebook Is Still Relevant

These days, with more and more people eschewing social media altogether, some going as far as to get rid of their smartphones in favor of the flip phone to be completely free of app distractions, it’s hard deciding which social platforms to keep and which ones to continue using. While many things depend on why you may prefer TikTok to Instagram, like age and interests, one social media platform that’s been losing a lot of steam is Facebook.

To be fair, it’s been around a long time, and many people are simply “over” Facebook, but there are several great ways that Facebook can impact your life, and the platform is still relevant. If you’re teetering on whether or not to keep Facebook or delete the app and all its data, keep reading for ways that Facebook can still benefit your life.

Deeper Connection

While you may scoff at the idea that any social platform can bring a deeper connection, hear us out. The great thing about Facebook is that it still allows users to engage in more meaningful dialogue than Instagram or Tiktok. While you can communicate through messages on those apps and the comments on posts, Facebook allows for more personal interaction as you can dive deeper into the life of the person you’re connecting with.

While other social media platforms allow you to have a profile, none offer the level of description and intimacy that a Facebook profile does. Additionally, Facebook messages have a more connected vibe than a DM on Instagram. More people have met their partners and started long term relationships through Facebook than other social media platforms, dating apps excluded.

Finding Your Tribe

Facebook is the only popular social media application that allows you to connect with like-minded people. Sure, you can follow people with similar interests and values on other social media applications, but you aren’t getting the same level of dialogue with them as you would on Facebook – Reddit may be an exception. But Reddit is shrouded in anonymity around the user.

As mentioned earlier, Facebook allows you to put a face to the name of the person you’re talking to and so many other details. Facebook makes it easy to connect with gardeners in your area, fellow minimalists, or people looking to live more sustainably, all while sharing tips and tricks. You can make lifelong, in-person friends through Facebook; a win other platforms can’t touch regarding accessibility.

Earn Extra Income

Another huge draw of Facebook is the ease at which you can earn extra income on the platform. So many people these days are gravitating towards a simpler lifestyle, with off-grid living, minimalism, or even becoming digital nomads. As you sort through what brings you joy or not, don’t forget the adage that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
You can make some serious cash by selling products on Facebook live or listing them directly on your profile. Items you want to get rid of quickly can be posted to “buy nothing” groups on Facebook. Even if you’re not decluttering or spring cleaning, if you have items you need to get rid of, consider posting them on Facebook; many users claim they sell faster on Facebook than on Craigslist!
