If you intend to grow your beard, you need to prune it, especially during the early growth stage. A well-trimmed beard will look presentable and it will grow faster than if it is left unkempt. An unkempt and wild beard will reduce your chances in the employment field and all-round-approachable areas. The best practice is to keep your facial hair in check. Here are four steps to trimming your beard.

1. Wash It

The first step involves using beard shampoo to wash your beard. You can then use condition to soften the beard. Dry your face and then run a comb against the base of your stubble. Make sure that the beard stands up and out. An upright beard will be more comfortable to trim, and it will show any variability in length.

2. Start Slow

Use clippers to shave your beard to your preferred length. Begin by cutting a bigger guard to avoid trimming it too short. If you want to look simple and not too long, use an even measure all around. If you want more shape for your beard, go for a long size around the chin and a short one at the cheeks. Use a differential of one or two. For instance, you can use a four on the cheeks and a five around the chin.

3. The Moustache

If you have a mustache, run a shorter guard over the upper lip. Most people find it challenging to use clippers on their mustache. An easy way is to comb the hair towards the upper lip and trimming anything that covers the lip. If you still find it challenging, use a pair of scissors instead.

4. The Neckline

Cutting the neckline is the most crucial part. Do not make a mistake of ignoring the neckline or trimming it wrong. If you stop too close to the jawbone, you will look like you have a double chin. However, do not let it go too far down to your neck. The ideal place is to have it warder a few inches above the Adam’s apple. Place two fingers above your Adam’s apple. Draw an imaginary line from each ear to your fingers. The line will form a “U” shape. Shave all the hair below this line. Trim the beard above the same sequence such that the hair still wraps around the jawbone and below the chin. If you want to fade your beard, set your clippers length at half the recommended settings. Trim from the neckline to the base of the beard. Make sure you have trimmed about one inch around the entire bottom. You can then fade it more closely by halving the clippers again. Fading requires you to use gradual lengths from the bare skin to the full beard.

Now that you have trimmed your beard do not forget to comb and soften it using a comb and some beard oil. Take care of any strays using your scissors. Make sure you look for the best trimmers at beardoholic.com. You can also search for more trimming tips at your barbershop.
