Experience is everything in today’s world. It is why even longstanding businesses are now failing. You need to provide your customers, clients, residents, or whoever it is that is paying you money a better experience than you did before. Building owners need to do more for their tenants. Store owners need to do more to improve the experience in their property.

Great services are going to go a long way towards keeping and retaining loyal customers, but that isn’t what is going to initially catch their attention. You need to use these five smart design ideas to better attract customers to your business so you can then seal the deal:

1.   Start with a Great First Impression

First impressions matter, so start by focussing your efforts on the exterior and entrance of your property. Outside you could consider repainting, adding flower boxes, new signs, and even window decals to entice customers in.

Inside the lobby or entrance you will want to reinforce the design aesthetic you are going for. Beautiful lobby signs can grab your customer’s attention and really make them look at your brand and logo. This is particularly important if you own and manage an office building or a high-scale residential building or hotel, where the rest of your business is hidden on different floors.

You will also want to consider how these signs are framed. An overall great impression needs smart design on the walls and floor as well. Business owners should also not be afraid to add decorative elements. Plant life, artwork, and even furniture can go a long way towards setting the right impression for your business.

2.   Add Natural Elements

There is a big emphasis on the natural world. With study after study coming to the conclusion that time spent in nature is good for our health and wellbeing, people are gravitating towards plants and natural elements more than ever.

A good way to entice customers or tenants in is by including these natural elements throughout your property. An office building should have plenty of air-purifying plants. Apartment buildings should have indoor garden areas that will boost your residents’ health and wellbeing.

Stores are a bit more complicated, but if you can add a plant wall then your business will benefit.

3.   Increase Natural Light

Natural light boosts our mood, and is particularly important in residential and office buildings. Increase natural light however you can: by using mirrors, painting with a glossy white paint, or even expanding window sizes.

4.   Update the Fixtures

A great way to easily update the entire look and feel of a space is by updating the fixtures. New lights, new furniture, new shelves – all of these will do wonders towards capturing a customer’s attention.

5.   Curate a Newsletter

Design efforts don’t stop there. Look online and manage a website and newsletter so that you can better engage with your customers or tenants. Residential or office buildings can organize events to build the community feel. Stores can advertise special sales or services. Newsletters and other digital tools (even social media) will go a long way towards bringing people in to your store and engaging with your offerings.
