My PhD is in information design; I’m a college professor specializing in strategic communication; I’m a speaker, writer, and designer; and I study things like pubic speaking, image copyright laws, punctuation, and infographic design. If that’s the nerd you’re looking for, I’m your guy!
What’s my jam?
I’m an all-around communication geek, but I’ll probably be the most helpful to you in the following areas: information design (you know, like designing stuff); public speaking and presentation design; leadership communication; data visualization; and business and professional communication.
What can I do?
Workshops
You name the topic and I’ll let you know my approach. I’ve done half, all-day, and multiple-day workshops for organizations large and small and I can tailor them to your needs. Some workshops I’ve done recently have been on leadership communication, giving presentations, slide deck design, and data visualization.
Speaking Events
Whatever your gig—conference, monthly luncheon, corporate retreat, training session—I’m happy to speak at it. A couple of my more popular presentations are, “How to Give POWERFUL Presentations”; “60 Minutes to Designing a Better PowerPoint Slide”; “A Design-Thinking Approach to PowerPoint”; “Leadership Communication Skills for Managers”; and “Can I Use that Picture? An Introduction to the Laws and Ethics of Image Copyrights.”

Information Design
I also work on customized design projects, specializing in visualizing complex information or infographics. If you want a customized infographic for your workflow, a one-sheet for your products, a branded collateral piece, or some other dreamed up visual concoction, let me know. Some projects I’ve worked on recently have included designing flowcharts for the pharmaceutical supply chain the the Utah criminal justice system. See some of my educational infographics here.
