How Can You Keep Your Employees Happy?
It doesn’t matter whether you have one or fifty employees, every one of them is an important part of your team. Some employees that handle the day to day running of the company will be essential in keeping your business growing. That is one of the main reasons why it is so important to keep your workers happy. Even though they are working for you, their productivity and loyalty to you are not automatic.
Try to be Flexible
You are running a business, and that means you need to have your workers there when they need to be. However, there is also room to be flexible if you can be towards your employees as this can build loyalty. For example, if one of your staff said that they needed to go to the doctors or the hospital, then it is good management to try and give them the time they need. It will make them feel better, and it will prevent resentment towards the company.
Don’t Micromanage
There can be an urge in management to be on top of their workers all the time to make sure they are doing as they should. However, there is good evidence to show that far from making the employees work better, it actually lowers productivity. No-one likes to be constantly monitored even when they are working. You need to give your employees some space and automation to do their job. By doing that, you will be making them far happier and more productive.
Offer Rewards
One way that you can show your appreciation to your workers is to offer them rewards for goals reached or working to a consistent level. For example, if you had a general work target of a certain number of tasks completed in a week, then anyone who met that would get a reward. Offering incentives and ways to boost morale may work for you, such as special certificates or light-hearted pinback buttons made for the worker to wear. Offering small rewards may incentivize your employees when their day is looking particularly tough. It is this type of recognition for their efforts that make employees feel more valued by the company and in turn makes them feel happier.
Arrange Staff Away Days
If you and your staff are working hard all year, then you all deserve a little break occasionally. Why not arrange a staff away day once or twice a year? It doesn’t have to be anything elaborate; it could be a picnic in the park or perhaps a day at a theme park. These types of excursion are great at allowing workers to get to know each other and also to have some fun. It can also help to build a team spirit and morale that is difficult to do any other way. You can even invite their partners and children if you can to make it a family event.
The relationship that you have with your workers is highly important, and it needs to be respected and nurtured. By trying to be the best manager and owner that you can, you will build trust and loyalty and have a better business for it.
